Position Summary:We are seeking a 1:1 Educator to work in our Creative Living Supports program in the home and community with a non-verbal 23 year-old man on the Autism Spectrum. The 1:1 Educator will work with individual on self regulatory behavior (including some physical behavior), communication, and task and skill acquisition. This position will ensure other program participants (therapists, co-workers and community members') safety through the use of pro-active strategies, blocking, and use of self-protective techniques when necessary (we are a non-restraint program, training provided). Qualified applicants must have strong leadership, take initiative, value working collaboratively with family and consultants, and enjoy learning new ideas and trying different approaches. This is a full time position paid at a rate of $18.00 - $20.00 per hour depending on education, experience & certification. Essential Job Functions:• Ensure safety and provide comprehensive assistance to client, including integrating him into the community & participating with him during internal and community based activities/groups. • Ensure the implementation of clients' ISP objectives and corresponding data collection; accurately document progress and needs related to goals• Help the individual work towards and achieve goals in the areas of communication, visual arts, leisure endeavors, vocational opportunities, and wellness. • Participate in physical fitness training and related activities with the individual• Learn and implement educational models of best practice and evidence based information in the areas of communication, emotional regulation, and pedagogy based upon goals of independence• Utilize a high-technology augmentative communication devise in a diverse array of social contexts• Assist client to achieve goals by maintaining knowledge of his learning style, strengths and needs and ensure that skills are taught accordingly.• Complete administrative tasks as assigned.• Transportation of client in own vehicle is a requirement.• Ensure that Health and Safety policies and procedures are implemented: be familiar with evacuation routes, ensure safe and efficient evacuations during drills and actual emergencies, keep aisles and means of egress clean and accessible, report unsafe situations, monitor clients at lunch, breaks, safely transport client to community sites. • Keep work areas clean and organized, perform light housekeeping and train clients to keep work areas orderly.• Other duties as specifiedJob Requirements:• Bachelor's degree in Special education or a related field with experience working with individual with developmental disabilities.• Ability to pass First Aid/CPR training's• Must have safe and reliable vehicle to transport clients• Must have valid Driver's License and proof of car insurance• Familiarity with Microsoft Office including Intermediate Skills in Outlook and Word and basic skills in Excel or willingness to develop such skills within 90 days of hire.• Familiarity with Communication software (Board Maker and Writing with Symbols) or willingness to develop such skills within 90 days of hireJewish Family & Children's Service cares for individuals and families by providing exceptional human service and health care programs, guided by Jewish traditions of social responsibility, compassion, and respect for all members of the community.JF&CS offers an excellent work environment with competitive salary and benefits.
