*Intern with impeccable leadership and communication skills needed immediatelyDescription: This is a rewarding and enriching experience for the right individual. Interns will assist with building and promoting special events and projects for each of the organizations. This internship involves frequent communication with Cheryl Osimo, MBCC Executive Director and Silent Spring Institute (SSI) Co-Founder. Interns must set consistent weekly schedules and set aside mandatory times to communicate directly with Cheryl and the Executive Assistant.Interns must have phone and internet access and commit to at least 15 hours per week. Travel is minimal except for possible on-site assistance required the day before and the day of the following 2013-2014 events:- 2014 Lesbian & Friends Annual Fundraiser Dance in Brookline, MA: January 25, 2014- 2014 Against the Tide in Hopkinton, MA: June 20th and June 21st- 2014 Against the Tide in Brewster, MA: August 15th and August 16thSome additional occasional travel may also be necessary. Against the Tide is MBCC's major annual statewide fundraising event including swim, walk, run, kayak, and Aquathlon components.Duration: Currently we have an immediate need for Fall 2013 and Winter 2013/2014 interns starting as soon as possible. Opportunities for yearlong internships also exist. Flexibility with dates can be accorded to interns based on their individual goals and needs. For example, summer interns will be encouraged and welcomed to stay on board for a longer internship duration through 2014. Only apply if you have excellent phone, writing, and organizational skills. Phone interviews are critical for obtaining information used in press releases and media coverage.Qualifications: College Junior or Senior. Graduate students will also be considered. Minimum GPA of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale.Compensation: While the position is unpaid, we are willing to work with institutions to offer students academic credit and/or stipends through their colleges to cover expenses.What this can do for you: Interns will walk away with improved communication and marketing skills, as well as an understanding of how to successfully work with the media and what goes into planning a major annual fundraiser with a leading non-profit organization.Responsibilities during the length of the internship may include the following:-- Preparing and distributing press releases for various media outlets including but not limited to newspaper, radio, and television. This includes follow-up calls and providing additional information when necessary.-- Promoting various events via social media outlets possibly including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Flickr, Wordpress blogging, and more.-- Initiating contact with local community businesses, health facilities, and individuals to encourage community sponsorship and individual or team participation.-- Posting event materials in various locations. This responsibility includes targeting high traffic locations that will increase event participation.-- Database building, management, and maintenance.-- Interviewing and writing feature stories for the media about Against the Tide event participants and supporters. This requires phone and/or email contact of a sensitive nature, since some contact will be required with those who have been touched by breast cancer.
